Peravoor: Narrow escape for travellers as uprooted tree falls on bus

KANNUR: The passengers on a bus coming from Bengaluru, had a narrow escape on Thursdaymorning, when the bus lost control and hit a tree near Peravoor and under the impact, the uprooted tree fell on the bus. Since it was a hartal day, more passengers chose the bus and most of the injured were locals. The rescue operations were also hugely affected because of the hartal, locals said. The bus coming from Bengaluru to Panur, lost control near Perumbunna Valavu, near Peravoor.
The speeding bus, hit a tree after Edathotti Kallerimala, and caused damage to electrical poles because of the impact. Nearly 20 passengers and bus driver Ajith, native of Gonikoppal, Karnataka, were taken to Indira Gandhi Cooperative hospital, Thalassery. The police and fire and rescue officials reached the spot, as many private vehicles kept off the road. Among the injured passengers were those from Peravoor and nearby areas, who wanted to escape the dawn to dusk hartal. Police said that the injured passengers were recovering.
