Malappuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has denied the charge that Jishnu’s mother Mahija was dragged in  the street in front of the police headquarters on Wednesday.  “The visuals of the incidents have proved that she was not dragged. She was lying on the road when the police picked her  up. The  report carried along with the visuals were wrong,” Mr Vijayan said at an LDF election campaign  at Chelari here on Thursday.

He also justified the police action saying that  Some protesters from outside the family had tried to enter  the office of the state police chief without permission. “Jishnu’s mother and other family members were allowed  to meet the DGP. But a few others  also tried to enter without permission. Naturally, the police prevented them. The DGP  later visited her and would meet her again,” Mr Vijayan said. The government stood with the family of Jishnu Pranoy and has supported  them in dealing with the case, he said.

Listing out each step taken by the state government and the police, Mr Vijayan said that everything had been done to ensure justice to Jishnu’s family and that they had never blamed the government. “I understand the sentiments of a mother who lost her son. The government has given much attention and care to them and would also continue to do so,” he said. Mr Vijayan attended three public meetings at Vengara, Valliunnu and Malappuram Assembly constituencies  as part of the LDF election campaign in the Lok Sabha constituency.
