Amaravati: Hindus dominant community

In the capital region, Medikonduru has the highest Muslim population of 21-25 per cent followed by Phirangipuram, which has 16-20 per cent.

AMARAVATI: The Hindus are a dominating community in the new capital, Amaravati. According to the APCRDA Amaravati fact book, Muslims and Christians constitute only a meagre 7.3 per cent and 1.4 per cent  respectively, of the total population in the capital region while Hindus constitute 70-91 per cent of the population.

In the capital region, Medikonduru has the highest Muslim population of 21-25 per cent followed by Phirangipuram, which has 16-20 per cent. In Phirangipuram, there is 8-10 per cent Christian population.

The life expectancy is 66.9 years in the new capital, Amaravati. Population science lecturer A. Koteswara Rao said availability of good medical treatment, food and healthy lifestyle would increase the life expectancy. Once the new capital is built, all facilities will increase and add to the life expectancy in the coming years.

Life expectancy in the national capital, Delhi, is 72.2 years, Mumbai 68.9, Bengaluru 68 and Hyderabad 66.9. CRDA commissioner N. Srikant said the fact book is a first of its kind initiative from the authority in building Amaravati as a world-class capital. It will be of great use to various sections of the society, he added.
