Hyderabad: After receiving complaints from the public that slaughter houses were throwing animal wastes in open areas and spreading diseases in residential areas, the South Zone Task Force conducted a cordon and search in Kamathipura police station areas on Saturday.

During the raid the police came across 12 slaughter houses. The cops arrested 35 people, 12 organisers and 23 butchers and seized 20 bikes and 5 autorickshaws.

“During the search we found the slaughter houses were functioning illegally. We nabbed the organisers and butchers running these facilities,” said South zone DCP V. Satyanarayana.

The police also nabbed a drug addict and seized 14 morphine injections from him. He was loitering in the area as the search was on. The addict was identified as I. Sandeep, a Gulf-returned 25-year-old man.

“Sandeep was a quality engineer in Dubai for two years and has a wife and son who stay at Padmarao Nagar. He happened to be in the area where we were conducting the search. We noticed his suspicious movements and nabbed him,” said Kamathipura inspector S. Sudharshan.

“The man hails from Visakhapatnam and was an alcohol addict. He started taking morphine six months ago after he lost interest in alcohol,” the inspector added. He was put under a drug inspector’s custody who counselled him. Sandeep was issued a notice to appear in court.
