Hyderabad: Id-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Thursday. The Shawwal moon was sighted on Wednesday, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramzan; the Ulema called upon Muslims to celebrate Id with prayers for peace and peaceful coexistence.

Islamic scholars from the city called upon Muslims to continue living piously for the remaining 11 months of the year too as they had been doing during the month of Ramzan.

“Ramzan is a month-long training period for Muslims to be kind and good to others. The training needs to be put to use during the remaining 11 months of the year when the next Ramzan month arrives,” they said.

The Ulema in the city denounced the recent bomb attacks in Turkey, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere and called upon the youth not to fall prey to what are claimed to be Islamic organisations.

Jamia Nizamia chancellor Syed Akbar Nizamuddin said Islam did not preach violence and those doing it in the name of religion were intentionally misinterpreting it. “Islam means peace and those claiming to be torch-bearers of Islam and indulging in killings are not Muslims and are only making an excuse in the name of religion. Pray to Allah to lead all of us on the righteous path of peaceful co-existence,” he said.

Qateeb Abdur Rahman Khurram of Sahaba mosque said Id-ul-Fitr was an occasion to forgive and embrace each other with love.

“People using the name of religion to spread violence should be dealt with an iron hand. No religion preaches killing of innocents. All of us should pray specially on Id-ul-Fitr that the Almighty protect us from evil forces and defeat them in their evil designs. Spread the message of brotherhood and love,” he said.

Moulana Syed Niyamatullah Quadri said Muslims should recite Takbeer on their way to Idgah and on their way back home after Id-ul-Fitr prayers. Also, the Idi from elders should be with a rider to younger ones to spend it on good and healthy things (if it is in cash).
