Kochi Infopark shuts food courts
The decision to close the eateries was taken pursuant to a protest march conducted by a section of IT employees working at Infopark.
Kochi: The Infopark, Kochi, has swung into action on the complaints of techies against eateries for serving unhygienic food by terminating their contracts and closed the food courts in Thapasya and Vismaya building. The Infopark also decided to constitute a food committee with the authorities of Infopark and the representatives from the companies to monitor the operations of food courts. The decision to close the eateries was taken pursuant to a protest march conducted by a section of IT employees working at Infopark.
A day after the protest march, some employees found a leech in a 'savala vada' which led to protest by techies on the social media and subsequently a complaint was lodged with Health Minister K.K. Shailaja on Friday. According to Infopark sources, three food counters in Thapasya and Vismaya are operated by two contractors. A statement released by Infopark on its Facebook page read, “Infopark has taken very strict actions against the food courts at Thapasya and Vismaya building of Infopark, Kochi, based on the issues/concerns raised by the employees about the serving of contaminated and unhygienic food by the vendors. The existing food vendors at these building will be terminated with immediate effect from the contract and the food court will remain closed till the new vendor gets finalised through an e-tendering process.”
The e-tendering has already been initiated for finding a new vendor at Athulya as the contract period got over, the statement said. The Infopark authorities claimed that there will be frequent audit by Food & Safety authorities in all these food courts in the future. ‘Progressive Techies,’ an organized group of employees working in the IT sector of Kerala, had filed the complaint before the health minister demanding action against canteens serving bad food.
