Tamil Nadu, Kerala cops hunt for maoists

Tribals in Karuvara have alerted the police about the visit of the Maoists to their village and have also shown their pictures to the Kerala police.

Coimbatore: As a group of five Maoists including a woman have been spotted in Karuvara hill hamlet in Kerala close to Coimbatore borders recently, the Tamil Nadu and Kerala police have launched a massive hunt for the Maoists in the border areas.

Tribals in Karuvara have alerted the police about the visit of the Maoists to their village and have also shown their pictures to the Kerala police. Following a tip-off, the Special Task Force have split up into 12 teams and fanned out across the Tamil Nadu-Kerala jungle fringes.

The Maoists are said to have collected grocery from the tribes and left the spot immediately on Friday early morning. Police confirmed that a Maoist leader, Soman, who was trained in Jharkhand and considered to be an expert at handling weapons and explosives, leads the ultras. He is the key arms trainer for the Maoists, say the police.  

Combing operation are being carried out in Sadivayal, Pichanoor, Mangarai, Anaikatti, Siruvani, Pillur, Vepamarathur, Velliyangiri forest, Madukkarai, Kozhinjampara, Wayanad, Malapura and Tholampalayam.
