Hot weather in AP likely this month: IMD

VISAKHAPATNAM: Coastal Andhra Pradesh is currently experiencing hot, humid, and uncomfortable weather conditions in many parts. As there are no rains, the temperature is slowly shooting up in many parts of the state though the maximum temperature remained below 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

“The temperature will fluctuate due to occasional rains in some parts of the state. But for the next two days it will remain hot and humid,’’ said IMD director Amaravato S. Stella.

She said strong winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely to blow over north-coastal and south-coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Yanam from Monday till August 10.

During the last 24 hours Jiyyammavalasa in Parvathipuram Manyam district received 30.4 mm of rainfall, Chintoor in ASR district 25.4 mm, Tenali 24 mm, Machilipatnam 15.7 mm and Kunavaram in ASR district 8.2 mm.

Weather experts said hot weather might prevail throughout August as it was forecast that the southern peninsula would get less rainfall. At least the first fortnight of August would have no rain, an expert said.

The southern peninsula received 10 per cent excess rainfall in June and July. The experts also forecast above-average monthly maximum temperatures are very likely over most parts of the south Peninsula, east and northeast India, and many areas of western parts of northwest and central India.

They said the El Niño conditions are intensifying further in the Pacific region and might continue till early next year.
