Hyderabad: Woman falls on 2-day-old, infant dies
HYDERABAD: A two-day-old baby succumbed to injuries after a patient-attender accidentally stumbled and fell on him at Niloufer Hospital at about 7.30 am here on Sunday. The victim's mother, M. Pushpamma, placed the baby on the floor and went to submit a case sheet at the counter when the incident occurred, Nampally police said.
One G. Komramma, 57, who was walking past suddenly noticed the baby and tried to stop but fell on the infant, who died instantly, police said.
“When I noticed a young woman placing her newborn on the floor, I asked her to place the baby in a cradle but she seemed to be in a hurry,” said K. Jaisri, another patient attendant. “Another attender was in a hurry and did not expect someone would place her baby on the floor and accidentally fell on him.”
The duty doctor and nurses rushed to the ward on hearing Pushpamma crying.
When the baby’s family members tried to attack Komramma, a constable present at the hospital alerted Nampally police, who went to the spot and pacified them.
Pushpamma, a farmer from Pargi, gave birth to the 1.3-kg baby Saturday morning. The doctors at Pargi informed them that her boy was weak and recommended shifting him to Niloufer Hospital, police said.
The baby was admitted at about around 7 pm. Pushpamma was asked to submit Pargi Hospital's case sheet at the counter.
“Based on a complaint lodged by Pushpamma we have thoroughly recorded her statements and that of Komaramma and eye-witnesses. We have booked a case under section 304 (A) death due to negligence,” said Nampally inspector B. Abhilash.
