Thrissur: KPCC vice-president M.M. Hassan has drawn flak from the youth for supporting former minister K. Babu in the corruption case charged against him by the Vigilance.   Three functionaries of the district unit of Yuvasree have resigned protesting against Mr Hassan’s stand.  Yuvasree is promoted by the Janasree Sustainable Development Mission, a micro-finance credit movement under the Congress party in the state. Mr Hassan is the  chairman of Janasree.

District president of Yuvasree, N.S. Saleemudheen, vice-president Fijo Johny and treasurer Neenalakshmi, who have resigned,  told mediapersons here on Tuesday that the Vigilance had filed cases against Mr Babu for alleged corruption and amassing huge wealth. Raids were conducted on his residence and several documents  were seized.

“But Mr Hassan has  supported  Mr Babu and cricticised the  Vigilance.  The new generation reacts against corruption through social media and other means. The results of the last Assembly elections were  a clear indication of how the young  voted against corruption,” they  said in a joined statement. They asked Mr Hassan to withdraw his statement in support of Mr Babu.   As Janasree was an organisation that aims to bring social security among the poor and the common people,  the stand taken by Mr Hassan in support of Mr Babu  was surprising, they added.
