KOZHIKODE: While adopting modern technology, the Public Service Commission (PSC) should also make sure that weaker sections are not ignored, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said after launching its online examination centre here on Thursday. They should also not forget the importance of Malayalam while designing software and conducting exams, he said.

The centre at the Civil Station is the first in Malabar and fourth in the state after Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam. It is the largest among them with a seating capacity of 321 as against 240, 104 and 210 in the other centres respectively. The centre caters to Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Palakkad districts. “It is the duty of the PSC to ensure social and opportunity equality through transparency in exams and selecting meritorious candidates to be part of state's administration,” he said.

“When embracing modernity and technology, we should not deny opportunity to people just because they lack access to technology.” “Since Malayalam is the administrative language, there is nothing wrong in checking their proficiency in it,” he added. The centre was constructed spending Rs 8.12 crore and the first online exam will be held on October 17. Labour minister T.P Ramakrishnan, PSC chairman K.S Radhakrishnan, Kozhikode mayor Thottathil Raveendran were also present.
