Kochi: The International Press Institute (IPI), a global network of publishers, editors and leading journalists for media freedom, has once again sent a letter to the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court and Chief Minister seeking intervention in the media persons vs lawyers spat. “It is my understanding that you took the important and welcome step of convening two meetings of media managers, journalists and representatives of attorneys in order to discuss this urgent issue. It is also my understanding that the High Court expressed support for the media’s right to report, for which we are grateful,” the letter sent by Barbara Trionfi, executive director of International Press Institute said.

However, since these meetings the situation for journalists in Kerala with respect to the courts has not improved. Reports indicate that journalists who attempted to cover the court on 30 September were forced out by attorneys and that police action was necessary to protect these journalists’ safety. IPI stands in solidarity with our colleagues in Kerala and I hope that this situation can be resolved quickly, the letter said.
