Self-financing row: Justice J M James panel clears 1,530 complaints
The committee had recast the ranklist of many colleges as it found that the admission process was not fair and transparent.
Thiruvananthapuram: Admission Supervisory Committee headed by Justice J.M. James has disposed all the 1,530 complaints that came up before the committee even as the admissions to self- financing medical colleges are to end on Friday. Justice James told this newspaper that the committee heard all the complaints and could find solutions in all cases. “All the complainants have benefited from the interventions of the committee. Some complaints were of individual nature, while other complaints were pertaining to the whole admission process in some medical colleges,” Mr James said.
The committee had recast the ranklist of many colleges as it found that the admission process was not fair and transparent. They had in fact cancelled all the admissions made to Kannur, Karuna and KMCT medical colleges. Most of the complaints were that inter se merit was overlooked and those below them were given admissions. The committee took up the cases related to each college separately. Directions were issued to colleges to take up corrective measures.
There were also complaints that applications were rejected on the ground that the undertaking for bank guarantee submitted before the Medical College by the applicants were found to be incomplete and therefore, legally invalid. The complainants had alleged that this act of the college was deliberate to avoid the applicants, whose NEET ranks are higher and to allow the applicants, whose NEET ranks were lower to that of the rejected applicants. The ASC had asked the colleges to give an opportunity to all the MBBS applicants, whose applications were rejected to resubmit an undertaking for the bank guarantee, and give them an opportunity to appear for counselling and admission.
