Cops seize Ganja from snooker club in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police has organised raids at four snooker parlours around the city and shut down the unlicensed ones on Friday. Ganja was also seized from one of the club located near PMG. The move comes amidst information that some clubs at areas like Pattom, Ulloor and Vellayambalam were supporting substance abuse by visiting teenagers and youngsters.
Also, there was report that betting and gambling were happening over pool games. Beer bottles were also found from the premises of some parlours. “These snooker clubs had no licenses issued by corporation or any authorities, Hence, they were close down,” said City Police Commissioner P Prakash. The raid was organised by shadow police under Control Room Assistant Commissiner V Suresh Kumar.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, the museum police have detained four youngsters who were found drinking on Manaveeyam road. “The youngsters who were found drunk previously also were shooed away but they started a spat with police officials. No cases have been registered yet,” police said. Strike police force was deployed at the spot as a section of youth assembled alleging persecution. Museum police said that morning walkers have been complaining about liquor bottles and tablet strips dotting the street.
