Kozhikode: Student organizations, students and parents of KMCT Medical College here are agitating against the management alleging mental torture because they were “extracting huge sums from students”, thereby violating the court order that fixed a uniform fee structure for all self-financing medical colleges in the State. KMCT College being the first medical college in the State that was directed to implement the recommendations of the Justice Rajendran Babu Commission report on uniform fees, is now allegedly making the students sign an agreement that demands an addition of Rs 6 Lakh from the existing fees of Rs 4,80,000 lakh  as bank guarantee.

Speaking to DC, one of the parents said, “A blank agreement was given to students at the time of admission but on Wednesday, the college demanded that students sign the agreement. The aim behind signing the agreement is to submit it in court so that the management can argue saying all the parents and students are ready to pay the amount. Hence we do not want to be part of the management’s cheap tricks, and therefore will fight against the management’s decision. Parents have all decided to sign this agreement.” In August, a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court endorsed the Rs 5 lakh provisional yearly fee fixed by the Justice R Rajendrababu Committee for admissions to 85 per cent of MBBS seats in self-financing medical colleges. The committee had also fixed Rs 20 lakh per annum as a fee for NRI seats.
