2 army personnel killed after tank burst during field firing exercise
NEW DELHI: Two Indian Army personnel lost their lives after the barrel of a T-90 tank burst during a field firing exercise near the cantonment town of Babina near Jhansi on Thursday evening. Among the dead was a junior commissioned officer who was understood to be commanding the tank.
The tank was manned by a crew of three personnel. The crew was provided immediate medical aid and evacuated to Military Hospital, Babina.
"The commander and the gunner unfortunately succumbed to burns," said a senior official. The driver is out of danger.
The incident is under further investigation. "The Indian Army expresses deep condolences to the bereaved families of the soldiers who lost their lives in the accident," said the official.
