Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan on Sunday expressed his regret for not inviting Governor P. Sathasivam to the inaugural ceremony of Vajra Kerala, the 60th-anniversary celebrations of Kerala Piravi, on November 1. “The governor was not deliberately avoided, and if it had hurt him, I apologise unconditionally,” Speaker said in a letter to the governor.

“It has come to notice certain news in connection with the inaugural function of the 60th birth anniversary celebrations of the state. The substance of the news was that your goodself was not invited to the function. I understand that it has caused some displeasure to your goodself,” Mr Sreeramakris-hnan said.

“I wish to convey my sincere sorrow in the matter. If the incident has caused any annoyance or displeasure, I tender my unconditional apology for the same. There never was any inclination or intention to avoid or ignore your goodself.

“It was decided that the 60th anniversary of the state shall be celebrated throughout the year, of which Chief Minister shall inaugurate the celebration and the governor shall be invited either in an important function during the course of the celebrations or at the culmination of the same. Before finalising the programme, the convenience of your goodself was enquired into, which if at all has caused any inconvenience or annoyance; I once again tender my apology.

“I may point out that neither the Kerala Legislative Assembly or the Government had any deliberate bad intention or ill motive in the matter at all,” Mr Sreeramak-rishnan said.
