Tamil natives in Kochi pay homage to Jayalalithaa
A mourning meeting was also organised in Vathuruthy, the biggest Tamil colony in Kochi.
KOCHI: Areas in the city where Tamil natives are settled like Vathuruthy, Pathalam and Eloor witnessed processions, prayers and poojas organised to mourn the death of their beloved ‘amma’. Though no violent incidents were reported from any Tamil settlements in Kochi, most of them were concerned over the possible unrest in their native place in Tamil Nadu. Tamilians at Pathalam organised a prayer meeting and a candle light rally to mourn the death of Jaya. Aged women were seeing crying out loud in front of the AIADMK supremo’s garlanded picture while a couple of men shaved their heads to pay homage to the departed leader.
Additional police security has been put in place in all the Tamil majority areas in the city to avoid any untoward incident. A mourning meeting was also organised in Vathuruthy, the biggest Tamil colony in Kochi. In Vathuruthy alone, more than 300 families from Tamil Nadu along with local people live in rented buildings. Some of them have come to Kochi more than 15 years ago and settled here to eke out a decent living.
