Cyclone: Four lakh populations in eight districts affected in AP

Vijayawada: The Michaung cyclone had a huge impact on a nearly four lakh population in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh since Tuesday. Some 308 villages were affected by the cyclone.
 
The state administration said some 3,97,376 people were affected, of which the highest number of 3,69,663 was in Konaseema district, followed by 11,926 in Krishna district, 6,077 in Nellore district, 5,113 in West Godavari district, 3,386 in Tirupati, 872 in Kakinada and 339 in Bapatla district.
 
Crops, mainly paddy, were damaged in thousands of hectares in the West Godavari, Kondaseema, Kakinada, Krishna, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore and Tirupati districts. Enumeration would begin soon to assess the crop losses.
 
Some 308 villages were affected due to the cyclone, of which the highest number of 114 villages was in the Nellore district, followed by Tirupati with 54 villages, Krishna  52 villages, Konaseema 41, Bapatla 21, Prakasam 18, West Godavari 5 and Kakinada district three.
 
A total of 77 mandals in AP were affected, in which  25 were in Tirupati, 19 in Nellore, 9 in Konaseema, seven each in Krishna and Bapatla, five in Prakasam, 3 in West Godavari and 2 in Kakinada district.
 
A total of 131 huts were damaged, of which 78 were in Tirupati and 48 in Konaseema. Sixty two houses were partially damaged in Konaseema. Some 232 houses were marooned in Tirupati district.
 
As many as 25 villages were inundated, of which 21 were in Bapatla district and the rest four in Tirupati district. No incident of village inundation was reported in the rest of the districts.
 
As for relief camps 236 camps were opened, of which 124 were in Nellore, 37 in Konaseema, 36 in Tirupati, 27 in Bapatla and 12 in West Godavari district.
 
The officials evacuated 16,794 people to relief camps, of which 6,077 were shifted to cyclone relief camps in Nellore district, 5,113 in West Godavari, 3,386 in Tirupati, 1,308 in Bapatla and 910 in Kondaseema district.
 
The Michaung cyclone damaged 1266.9 km length of surface roads, of which roads of 495km length were damaged in Nellore district followed by 311km in Prakasam, 285km in Bapatla, 95.4km in Tirupati and 80.5km in Konaseema district.
 
As many as 14 sources of minor irrigation were damaged in Tiurpati district, 3162 villages remained in the dark without power. Power was restored to 2338 villages and works were under progress to provide power to the rest of the 824 villages.
