Cyclonic rains filling up reservoirs in Godavari districts

Kakinada: Heavy rains in the catchment areas of Godavari districts due to Cyclone Michaung are filling up reservoirs and ponds, while rivulets and streams are overflowing.

Heavy inflows are reaching Karatam Krishnamurthy Reservoir from Yerra Kaluvu in Kongavarigudem of Jangareddygudem in Eluru district. Officials predict that if the rain continues for one more day, the reservoir could become full.

Currently, water level at the reservoir is 82.68 metres against the full reservoir level of 83.50 metres. 15,372 cusecs of water has entered the reservoir so far.

Tammileru reservoir at Nagireddygudem in Chintalapudi mandal of Eluru district has received 1,493 cusecs of water on Wednesday. Reservoir assistant executive engineer A. Paramanandam said the reservoir basin level is 355.18 feet and the capacity is 355 feet. Gonela Vagu basin level is 333.02 feet and storage capacity is 3 TMC. The present storage here is 0.629 TMC.

Paramanandam that 235.4 mm rainfall has been recorded in Chintalapudi mandal. Yerra Kaluva is receiving heavy inflows of rain water.
