Khammam: Cyclone Michaung brought heavy rainfall to the erstwhile Khammam district on Wednesday, leading to significant disruptions in coal production at opencast mines across Yellandu, Sathupally, Kothagudem, and Manuguru.

The deluge caused floodwater to inundate the mines, forcing officials to halt operations to ensure safety. Heavy vehicles like dumpers faced extreme difficulty navigating the flooded terrain, further hindering coal transportation.

The rains also triggered breaches in canals between Gangaram and Bethupalli villages in the Sathupally mandal, disrupting road connectivity to Gangaram and Ramnagar. Newly elected MLA, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, contacted the district collector to assess the situation's impact on the Paleru Assembly Constituency.

Furthermore, traffic was stalled between bordering villages of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh due to overflowing floodwaters. Similar flooding affected the road at Moddulagudem in the Ashwarampet mandal.
