HYDERABAD: The Union Government has released the second installment of the State Disaster Response Fund amounting to nearly Rs 500 crore to Andhra Pradesh towards cyclone assistance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the Home ministry to release, in advance, the central share of the second installment of SDRF of Rs 493.60 crore to AP to help the state government manage the relief steps necessitated by the Michaung cyclonic storm.

In a social media post, home minister Amit Shah said that severe cyclonic storm Michaung has affected Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Though the extent of damage was varied, many areas of these states were inundated, thus affecting standing crops. “To help the state governments manage relief, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the home ministry to release in advance the central share of the 2nd installment of SDRF.”

Amit Shah said the country stood with the affected people in this crucial hour and would ensure the situation normalised at the earliest.
