ABVP Seeks Protection of SU Lands from Land Sharks
Karimnagar: Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a dharna on Sunday demanding that state government protect the lands of Satavahana University’s College of Pharmaceutical Sciences Pharmacy College from land sharks.
The protesters pointed out that land grabbers with support from some university officials tried to clear the college land near the Lower Manair Dam reservoir using a JCB.
ABVP said in spite of a regular vice chancellor, authorities are unable to protect the university lands from encroachment.
They demanded that the newly formed Congress government take immediate action against persons who are indulging grabbing of university lands.
Incidentally, vice chancellor Prof. S. Mallesh said a person identified as Veera Reddy had taken permission from the pharmacy college principal A.R. Kishore for carrying out works on his land, which is adjacent to the university land. However, when Veera Reddy tried to lay a road through the university lands, college authorities lodged a complaint with One-Town police station, which has registered a case.
ACP Narendar, along with other police officials, seized the JCB that was levelling the university land and took Veera Reddy into custody.
“Steps will be taken to protect the university lands by fencing them,” the vice chancellor assured.
