Ambedkar Statue Sparks Tension, MP Brokering Peace
Kakinada: Konaseema district's Mogallamuru village witnessed simmering tensions on Sunday over the location of an Ambedkar statue. While one group wished for its placement on the main road, another objected, leading to a stalemate.
A temporary solution emerged with the formation of a joint committee, but its decision was overruled by the village panchayat, favoring a non-main road location. This sparked outrage among pro-statue advocates, who installed the statue on the main road at midnight.
However, the opposing faction retaliated by reporting the act to the police. The statue was promptly removed and deposited in the panchayat office.
With tensions escalating, Amalapuram MP Chinta Anuradha stepped in. The statue was returned to its initial location, awaiting a final decision. Anuradha called for a joint meeting on Monday, assuring that the committee's final ruling on the statue's placement would be honored.
