GO Issued Lifting Cases Against Konaseema Arson Accused
Kakinada: State government has issued a Government Order No.1566 lifting cases against the 242 accused in the Konaseema arson case.
The cases had been booked when AP government proposed to rename Konaseema district after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Agitators against the move burnt down houses of transport minister Pinepe Viswaroop and Mummidivaram MLA Ponnada Venkata Satish at the time.
Police registered six cases against the 242 accused.
The GO issued states that the government, after careful examination of the matter, have decided to withdraw the prosecution in six cases registered against the accused with the Amalapuram town and Amalapuram Taluk police station limits.
The government has instructed director general of police to instruct the public prosecutor and assistant public prosecutor concerned to file a petition under section 321 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Central Act, No. 2 of1974) for withdrawing prosecution in the six cases.
