Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav has said that around 25,000 shops selling meat and fish in the open in the state have been shut down in the last 25 days.

Mr Yadav informed this while laying foundation stones for projects worth Rs 187 crore in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh late on Sunday.

In his first order after assuming office on December 13, Mr Yadav had issued directions to close down all shops selling meat and fish in the open in the state.

Mr Yadav also announced that the coming “Makar Sankranti” festival will be observed as “Women Empowerment Day” in Madhya Pradesh.

He said that Ujjain has rich historical and mythological legacies.

Lord Krishna had learnt 64 arts related to music and dance and acquired the knowledge in just 64 days, in Ujjain.

Similarly, Emperor Ashok had sent his daughter Sanghamitra and son Mahendra from Ujjain to Sri Lanka to propagate Buddhism, he said.

Mr Yadav also unveiled the country's first healthy and clean food street, “Prasadam” at Mahakal Mahalok, close to the famous Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain late on Sunday.

Union minister for health and family welfare Mansukh Mandaviya was also present on the occasion.
