KOZHIKODE: The much-awaited Pink Patrol team in Kozhikode city is waiting for the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) to install a set of computers that will control the passage and location of the vehicles once they are out on the road. The Control Room ACP in charge of the system here said that the moment the computers were installed, the project would start functioning.

“Four computers from C-DAC are expected to be brought here for setting up the control room. Everything else, including the telephone connections for the toll free number are ready. We are just waiting for the computers to be set up for the system. Once they set up the four devices, the cars will roll out immediately,” said M. Subair, ACP, control room. Twenty-four women police officers have already trained for the ‘Pink Patrol’ project, aimed at ensuring the rights and safety of women in public places and have been allotted two vehicles in the city.

And half of them are trained drivers.  These police officers will patrol on KSRTC and private stage carriers and will be present at bus stops, schools, colleges and other public places. The Patrol car has been equipped with GPS tracking devices as well as cameras installed on the front and rear sides of the vehicles. The camera sends continuous visuals to the control room. An officer from the control room can inspect these visuals in real time and deploy additional forces to various areas whenever necessary. In November, the Chief Minister launched the project statewide.
