HYDERABAD: IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said that the state government was drafting plans to develop the Vemulawada temple, known as "Dakshin Kasi", on the lines of Yadadri temple. Rama Rao instructed officials to make fool-proof arrangements for the Mahasivarati celebrations on February 18 as nearly five lakh devotees were expected to pray at the temple.

He was speaking at a review meeting over the arrangements for Mahasivaratri celebrations at the Vemulawada temple with officials here on Tuesday.
He told officials to ensure devotees did not face any inconvenience and wanted special emphasis on sanitation. It was decided to keep ambulances and fire tenders ready.

Rama Rao asked officials to submit proposals to the state government for funds required to implement these measures and said they would be sanctioned immediately. Rao instructed officials to organise cultural programmes in coordination with the cultural department as was being organised every year.
Officials briefed the minister about the development programmes being executed in Vemulawada.

He asked them to speed up the construction of a mini stadium in Vemulawada and lay a four-lane road from Kodarupaka to Vemulawada. He sought a report on the construction of the second ghat road at Nampally hillock.

Rao expressed confidence that Siricilla and Vemulawada would emerge as top tourist destinations in the State and asked officials to undertake development works accordingly. He added that Vemulawada temple’s tank bund should be strengthened and developed on the lines of Warangal.

A towering statue of Lord Shiva would be established on the Ramappa hillock on the Sircilla fringes, besides constructing cottages and creating adventure sports facilities.

It was also decided to introduce a cable car service on the Nampally hillock in Vemulawada town. The road leading to the temple in the town should be equipped with pavements and at possible locations, street art works should be taken up, Rao suggested.
