Ooty's woman autodriver takes control of her life
She wants every woman, especially those from poor families, to act with courage and confidence and stand on their own legs.
Ooty: While the world is observing International Women’s Day on Wednesday, Roselyn Jerry (34), one of Ooty’s first generation woman auto drivers, stands as a symbol of self-confidence. She runs the family and is educating her two daughters.
She wants every woman, especially those from poor families, to act with courage and confidence and stand on their own legs.
When her husband passed away about 14 years ago, Roselyn had great difficulty raising her daughters.
Though she worked in a hotel for many years, the income was meagre. So she determined on a career in auto-driving. She learnt driving and took a license barely a year ago.
From then onward, her life has taken a change for the best, and she is now on top-gear. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Roselyn Jerry said that initially she found it difficult, being a lone woman driver in the auto stand at the central bus stand here. But male auto drivers in the stand have been a source of support to her, she noted.
