Hyderabad: Four journalists from Deccan Chronicle – Putcha Tulasi, L Pavani Kodati, Kasturi M., and Aishwarya A.V.S.K. — were on Monday honoured by the state government at a special event, ‘Honouring Women in Journalism’.

Municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao, Women and child welfare minister Satyavathi Rathod, and education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy gave away certificates of recognition to the journalists.

The event, where several women journalists were honoured for their contributions to society through their work, was organised on the eve of the International Women’s Day.

“This is a very small gesture from the government to all the women who broke the glass ceiling and made it on their own, became role models for others to follow in the journalism profession,” Rama Rao said. “I thought this was a befitting occasion to recognize and honour women in journalism,” Rama Rao said.

Sabitha Indra Reddy, thanking Rama Rao for initiating the idea to honour women journalists, said, “This is the beginning of a new tradition, something that will stay as a good memory for each of the honorees. Journalism is challenging and all of you excel in the profession.”

Satyavathi Rathod complimenting the women journalists, said this was a first of a kind event, adding that the idea was to honour women in journalism who otherwise, are normally not taken note of despite their contributions.
