Woman jumps into pond with 14-month-old son

Tirupati: A 28-year-old woman has jumped into a local pond under Pakala police station limits, along with her 14-month-old child at Nendragunta, Pakala mandal, Chittoor district. The bodies of the mother and son were seen floating in the pond on Tuesday.

Deceased E. Maheshwari was married to Nagendra Goud, a native of Anantapur district in June, 2020. They came to SR Puram in Chittoor district in search of livelihood six months ago. Nagendra was working as cluster supervisor at a DRDO project in SR Puram, police said.

After a dispute with her husband, Maheshwari left the house along with her son Somansh Goud on March 5. When the family members couldn’t trace the two, they lodged a complaint with the police the next day. Locals found their body floating in a pond in Nendragunta on Tuesday morning.

Police said Maheshwari had tied her son to her stomach using a chunni. On Tuesday, her mother lodged a complaint against her son-in-law, alleging dowry-harassment. The bodies of the dead were sent to the government hospital for autopsy.
