Hyderabad: Two children were lured away from a state home in Yusufguda by, as yet, unidentified people who claimed to be their parents. The two boys, one five years old and the other three years old were taken away when they were playing in the compound of the state home. According to a senior officer of what? who spoke on condition of anonymity, “The children were rescued from a begging racket and were placed for rehabilitation. A couple approached the home and demanded that the children be given back to them as they are the biological parents. But the officers refused, saying a legal process had to be followed and asked them to approach the police.” The children were taken away any way. The staff of the state home is under scrutiny as to how this happened.

A missing children’s complaint was registered with S.R. Nagar police station, who traced the children to a slum in Santosh Nagar.  Child Welfare Commi-ssioner P. Shyammala Devi said that exact details of the case are awaited but the police are getting the children back. "Whenever we rescue children from begging we face this problem. There are couples who claim to be the parents and demand that the children be given back to them. In this case, they lured the children away and an inquiry is being carried out," the welfare commissioner said.
