KOZHIKODE: The District Fire and Safety department officials have come to the rescue of 15 children studying in the Government Lower Primary School located near Palayam near here, which was functioning in a dilapidated building in danger of collapsing any time. The department will collaborate with National Service Scheme volunteers of the city to give a complete facelift to this school.

“Our major plan in the first phase is to create an eco-friendly atmosphere in the school, which will include cleaning the entire school campus, repairing the building damages, painting the entire structure and also the compound walls, plant many tree and plant saplings”, said Fire Officer Arun Bhasker. The building was crumbling and needed urgent repairs. In spite of the school being located in the heart of the city, no attempts were made for the infrastructure development of the school.

“For years the school has been in this dilapidated condition,” he added. On Friday, Mayor Thottathil Raveendran officially inaugurated the facelift activities and assured full support to the school, even financially. The department has a plan to construct a beautiful garden and children’s park for the school in the second phase.
