VIJAYAWADA: AP Women’s Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma said those who post obscene messages against women on social media shall not be ignored and strict legal action will be taken against them.

Addressing students while launching "Women's Dignity Day" at Maris Stella College in Vijayawada on Friday, she called on everyone to join hands and continue this programme every Friday.

Padma underlined that the Andhra Pradesh government has taken various measures for empowering women, so that they could bravely face challenges in society. She said Women's Dignity Day being organised every Friday will serve as a warning to those who misbehave with women.

CID SP K.G.V. Saritha said Women's Dignity Day has not been conceived anywhere in the world. Women's Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma has started it for the first time. She asked students to use the Disha app as a protective shield, which enables police to help women in distress and trouble.

Maris Stella College principal Jacinta, Meghana of Manavi Trust and students were present at the launch of Women’s Dignity Day. Pink balloons were released in the air on the occasion.
