Apply for power online in Tamil Nadu
Provisions have been made to check the status and action taken on the application online itself, a release said.
Chennai: The state government has launched an online service for domestic and other low tension consumers who can apply through it for power supply service connections. Consumers can now apply online to secure a new low tension (LT) service connection, addition and reduction of load and also upload all necessary documents on the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) website — www.tangedco.gov.in, and also make payment for this purpose.

The consumers can also pay registration and other fees online itself. Presently, people have to contact the respective Tangedco offices with filled-in forms to apply for new LT connections, the release said. The state has 2.7 crore LT consumers. The online service will not be available for agricultural and hut LT consumers.
Tangedco, in its working instruction, directed section officers to take prompt action on the application received by it without any delay as per the Tangedco proceedings. “If the application received does not pertain to the section as mentioned by the applicant, the officer concerned who received the application shall forward the same to the appropriate section immediately without any delay,” it said, warning that seeking unnecessary documents from the applicants by the field officials should be avoided and it would be viewed seriously.
“The documents as mentioned in the TNE Distribution Code shall alone be insisted from the applicants,” it said. Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa launched the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation’s initiative on Friday, said an official release. She also inaugurated 23 power sub-stations constructed across the state at an estimated Rs 242.25 crore in districts such as Tirupur and Salem.
The release said that new sub stations are being built wherever necessary to overcome power losses through grid, minimise maintenance cost and to meet the peak demands of every area.
