Gurus honoured on Teacher's Day in Kerala
Students took the initiative to salute their teachers by organising colourful cultural programmes and honouring ceremonies.
Kochi: Schools across the state observed Teacher’s Day with various activities and initiatives on Monday. At St Philomena’s Public School and Junior College at Elanji, Ernakulam, eminent social worker and teacher Joy Thottam was awarded Gurushreshta’ instituted by Mahatma Education Trust. College Principal Fr John Erniakulathil was present on the occasion.
At MGM RPS, Kottarakara, student councilors from classes XI and XII arranged a panel of members to act as principal and teachers of the school. The student teachers took the responsibility of teaching the students of classes KG-VIII for two consecutive periods.
They also took the responsibility of arranging entertainment programmes on the occasion. A student of class XII who dressed up as Dr. S. Radhakrishnan delivered a message and inaugurated the entertainment programme.
Christ Nagar Senior Secondary School, Thiruvallam, focused on the theme 'Educating the mind without educating the spirit is no education at all'. Students ran the entire show handling classes and administration with equal aplomb.
The day began with an assembly addressed by Fr Sebastian Attichira CMI, Vicar Provincial, St.Joseph's Province, Thiruvananthapuram. The School Principal Fr Mathew Arekalam CMI handed over the golden key to the Student Principal Mohika Thampi (Class XII) signifying transfer of power for a day. He also administered oath of office to the Student Principal in the presence of Vice Principal Vedik Manoj (Class XI) and senior assistants Reshma L A (Class X) and Javed Fayaz (Class X). TGM Vidyaniketan Secondary school Maravanthuruthu remembered Dr. S Radhakrishnan with a function.
Chief guest was Prof Molly Mathew, retired professor from Devamathe College, Kuravilangadu. National Talent Search Exam winner Sabarinath P.S was honoured on the occasion.
Sree Narayana Central School, Nedungolam, Kollam, also celebrated the day. The principal of SNCS Dr V Radhakrishnan Nair, PTA president Mr Sunil Chellappan and Ms Savithry were felicitated at the function. The M R Mohamed Kunju Memorial Muslim Higher Secondary School Edava also celebrated the day with a variety of activities.
