Thiruvananthapuram: Now, enjoy free Wi-Fi in 12 spots

Thiruvananthapuram: The City Corporation has introduced public Wi-Fi spots in 12 locations across the city offering up to 15 minute free internet access every month. Mayor V.K. Prasanth who launched the facility on Wednesday said that more Wi-Fi spots would be set up in the coming days.

At present Wi-Fi hotspots have been established in the Corporation office at Palayam, zonal offices at Vizhinjam, Kazhakoottam, Attipra, Vattiyoorkavu and Nemom, health circle offices at Sasthamangalam, Medical College, Sreekanteswaram, Anthencode, Over-bridge and Palayam and the Corporation’s Utharayana rest house near Medical College.

BSNL is providing the 5G Wi-Fi zones. Public can access internet connectivity on their smartphones or other devices within a radius of 100 metres of the hotspots at speeds between 2 Mbps and 20 Mbps. Up to 15 minute internet access on a particular device would be offered free once every month.

For usage beyond that limit, the public can get prepaid vouchers from the respective offices. Various denominations of prepaid vouchers starting from '10 for 100 mbps would be made available.

The state government is also planning to set up wi-fI spots across the state.
BSNL chief general manager R. Mani and Thiruvananthapuram principal general manager S.S. Thampi were also present during the launch.
