Kozhikode: The Janakeeya Samrakshana Samithi, a collective of activists, on Thursday submitted a petition before the Kuthuparamba Munsif Court demanding that CCTV cameras be immediately installed in Narikkottumala quarry, where illegal mining of granite is taking place. In a petition submitted by committee Kannur district secretary E. Maneesh, it also demanded that the police aid check post in the area be resinstated.

Mr Maneesh said that though the deputy collector had directed the district police chief to start a police aid post, it was yet to come up. The directions were given last year. According to the petition, the hill comprised Pathikkal mala, Podikkalam Mala, Vazhamala, Poluthayimala, Kuzhikkalmala and Thonnooram Makkoolmala and has around 50 water resources. The hill is also a reservoir of many natural herbs. Moreover, it is ecological significant from the context of north Malabar culture and civilization.
