KAKINADA: Home Minister Taneti Vanitha on Friday said Andhra Pradesh stands first in fish production. As such, there is a need to increase marketing facilities for the fish.

Inaugurating the three-day 4th Aqua and Sea Food festival at Rajamahendravaram along with East Godavari district collector K. Madhavi Latha, Vanitha stressed on popularising the “Fish Andhra” brand. She underlined that domestic consumption of fish products within AP must also be increased. For the purpose, people must be made aware that fish is a healthy food containing vitamin E and calcium.

The minister pointed out that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is encouraging seafood festivals to provide alternative marketing facilities for fish. The government has also started Fish Andhra outlets and mobile fish units by extending subsidies to these outlets.

Collector Madhavi Latha said fat content is very low in marine products. People can eat them from a health point of view. She stated that people of Japan and Korea are very healthy as they consume marine foods.

DCCB chairman Akula Veerraju, AP Kadhi Board chairperson Pilli Nirmala and marine joint director V.V. Rao were present.
