Tension in Kavali after municipal staff remove TD flexis
TIRUPATI: A tense situation prevailed at Kavali in Nellore district on Friday after municipal staff removed the flexis put up by Telugu Desam Party activists on the occasion of TD leader Malishetty Venkateshwarlu's birthday.
Trouble started building up when unidentified individuals tore down TD’s flexis early in the morning. As tension started building up, municipal staff intervened and removed the remaining flexis of the TD, saying the party had not taken any permission to put up the flexis.
Protesting against the action of municipal staff, former TD councillor Chinni staged a protest at the RTC bus stand. He went on to place a knife on his neck, threatening to harm himself unless the municipal staff either stop removing the TD’s flexis or also remove those belonging to the ruling YSR Congress party.
This led to a stand-off and heated arguments between TD leaders and municipal officials. Before the situation could deteriorate, police intervened and held discussions separately with the two groups.
Following this, peace was restored.
