Left seeks action in Calicut University textbook row
A syndicate member told DC that it was required to find out how a controversial resurfaced in the syllabus.
KOZHIKODE: The next meeting of Calicut University syndicate will discuss the recent textbook row. The university was forced to withdraw Kithabu Thouheed, a textbook for the BA Afsal-ul-Ulama course which is allegedly promoting extremism, after protests from various corners. The left members of the Syndicate will raise the issue and demand action against those who reintroduced the textbook earlier withdrawn due to similar protests in 2007.
A syndicate member told DC that it was required to find out how a controversial resurfaced in the syllabus. “Firstly, it shouldn’t have happened, and there should be a proper investigation. Secondly, the objectionable content in the textbook should have been noted by the board of studies before considering as a textbook,” the member said. The SSF demanded the VC to withdraw all textbooks with Salafi ideology.
