Kochi: A daily wage earner in Muvattupuzha has won accolades of residents  for his honesty when he handed over a bag, containing 25 sovereign gold and Rs 75, 000 in cash, that he found lying at the road side. Shaiju Puthanpura (38), a native of Kadathi in Muvattupuzha, was going to a construction site in the town and found the bag lying at the roadside when he reached Fire Station Junction on Sunday. Upon inspection he was shocked to find the cash and gold.

“The bag belonged to one goldsmith – Santosh, a resident of Kandathinputhanpurayil House, Kadati. He lost it while travelling in his two-wheeler,” police said. Shaiju, meanwhile, rushed to the Muvattupuzha police station and handed over the bag. The cops traced the real owner and handed it over to Santosh. “The jewellery was part of a order and had it not been returned, then Santosh would have suffered huge financial liability,” they said. A happy Santosh immediately gifted a certain amount of money as gift, however, to the surprise of the cops and the gold smith, the daily wage earner refused to accept it, saying he was just listening to this conscience.
