NEET qualifiers anxiously await Andhra Pradesh’s merit list
NTR University did not issue notification asking candidates to submit details for counselling
Vijayawada: Students who have qualified in NEET UG – 2020 are a worried lot as NTR University of Health Sciences has not yet announced the merit list for AP.
Several students who have secured All India ranks will have to opt for their college for admission into MBBS / dental when Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) holds its second counselling from November 13 to 18. Once they exercise this option, they will not be able to change their option.
If the aspirants know that they have got a better rank at the state level, they will exercise the choice for a better college on the basis of their state rank rather than their nation-wide rank.
Though neighbouring Telangana has already announced its state merit list on November 1, NTR University has not yet issued a notification asking candidates to submit their details for counselling. The reason for this is said to be AP High Court’s order from the last academic year when trouble broke out pertaining to counselling process for admission to NEET PG. The HC had then directed the state government to work out modalities for conducting counselling, which would not lead to mistakes again.
Based on it, university authorities are eagerly awaiting issue of G. O. by the state government. Sources privy to these developments say though the Department of Higher Education has taken up the issue with Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney underlining the urgency of conducting counselling for MBBS/BDS courses, there seems to be some delay.
Authorities at NTR University maintain that once the GO is issued for conduct of counselling, it will take them two weeks to prepare the state merit list and announce it. This is because they will have to seek applications from students to submit their details, verify the details, and then prepare the merit list keeping in mind reservations pertaining to OC, BC, SC, ST, local and non-local categories.
University authorities also say that once a tentative state merit list is announced, they will have to give two days’ time for students to verify the list and raise any objections. Only then can the final state merit list be announced.
