Thiruvananthapuram: The newly-weds don’t  have to spoil their honeymoon and stand in long queues before the corporation office to get their marriage certificates hereafter. They can happily get them the same day through the online marriage registration kiosks   opened by the corporation in a bid to eliminate the hassles. Radhika Ramachandran and G.H. Nandu became the first couple in Thiruvananthapuram corporation to enjoy the benefit. They were married at the RDR Auditorium, Cotton Hill, Edapazhanji here, on Thursday and got the marriage certificate from the kiosk opened there.

The official inauguration of the kiosk was done by Mayor V.K. Prasanth at Thiruvananthapuram corporation main office where corporation employees G. Shreeja and V.S. Vinodkumar presented their marriage papers. The corporation will enter into agreements with auditoriums and halls to set up kiosks so that data concerning newly-weds can be entered then and there.  Documents proving age and identity, marriage form and the fee can be submitted to the auditorium or hall where the kiosks have been set up. The data will be entered by operators assigned by the corporation and the fees will be transferred to the corporation treasury. On the wedding day, the operator will get the online printout of marriage form signed by the couple and collect the certificate from the hall to submit it to the corporation.

The couple will then have to come to the corporation office to complete the process before a registrar and immediately collect their marriage certificate. Earlier, the couples had to wait for three days to one week for the corporation to complete the registration of their marriage. Deputy mayor Rakhi Ravikumar,  who presided over the function, said that previously  even those who had come on short leave for their wedding had to spend much time at the corporation to  get the marriage registration done. Mr  Prasanth said that more services will be made online making use of the smart city project.
