Car driving training for unemployed women

The Siddipet police said that together with Union Bank, it had helped 35 women from the district get trained in car driving. Among them was  28-year-old Shaheen Sultana from Timmapur of Siddipet district, an unemployed engineer who was writing recruitment tests.

Sultana told Deccan Chronicle that she had applied for government jobs, but she could not clear some tests while in others the notifications were cancelled. Though getting a government job was her dream, she did not want to waste time.

“Even If I get a job, this skill would be an advantage. Now I am planning to get expertise in car driving. Bank officials have also assured us to provide a loan if we want to buy vehicles or start any business,” she added.

Siddipet police commissioner N. Swetha said the initiative was aimed to train unemployed women from rural areas and empower them. “We are also pursuing with the transport department to get driving licences to these women,” she said.

As a part of this programme, the women were trained for 30 days in car driving, motivational sessions, life skills, health and hygiene, during which they were put up in a training centre from 10am to 5pm every day and meals were provided. The trainees were also provided free accommodation at night.
