YSRC MPs seek evacuation of north Andhra workers from Turkey, Syria
VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress MPs Bellana Chandrasekhar, Pocha Brahmananda Reddy, Talari Rangaiah and N. Reddappa on Wednesday appealed to union government and Ministry of External Affairs to evacuate from Turkey and Syria around 1,000 people of north Andhra Pradesh who have been trapped there due to earthquake.
Addressing media in New Delhi, MP Chandrasekhar pointed out that most of these people are from Srikakulam district. Talari Rangaiah said the workers are in great danger and would like to return to India. Brahmananda Reddy and Reddappa said in the coming days, they will contact the embassies of Turkey and Syria and make a strong effort to get north Andhra workers evacuated from those countries.
The MPs further said Polavaram project has been facing a lot of trouble due to faulty works undertaken by earlier Telugu Desam government at Polavaram just to help TD associated contractors.
They regretted that in the 2023 Union Budget, the centre has not given any funds to backward districts of AP or Polavaram project. The ruling party MPs said during the ongoing session of parliament, they will raise issues like Special Category Status and implementation of assurances made at the time of bifurcating Andhra Pradesh.
