Women raise voice against discrimination of Adivasis

ADILABAD: There was a difference to the meeting as irrespective of political affiliation, Adivasi women joined hands with those from other communities to fight for the rights of women on the occasion of international women's day here on Monday.
Many non-tribal women attended the meeting that was organized by Adivasi Mahila Sangham, affiliated to Tudum Debba. They expressed their solidarity with the Adivasi women in their fight for their constitutional rights while all of them decried the social discrimination in various spheres, including politics. Belonging to different political parties, non-tribal women leaders expressed their concern about health problems faced by Adivasi women.
They all recalled the historic struggles and pioneering efforts of B.R Ambedkar and Savitri Bai Phule for women empowerment.
TPCC state general secretary Gandarth Sujatha said that men in politics always try to drag the women’s chair by hook or crook and suppress them politically.
Ch. Suhasini Reddy of BJP said that nothing much had changed for Adivasi women, something which she has been observing for the last 20 years when she was the ZP chairperson.
Indravelli ZPTC Pushpa said Adivasi leaders should be more democratic when they address women's issues.
Dr Sumalatha called upon the women to focus on health and education. Adivasi MPPs Kumra Chandrakala, Pote Shobha, Kudmetha Rathnaprabha and Adivasi Mahila Sangam leaders Atram Suguana, Renuka, Pushparani, Lilitha Bai, Kursenga Radhakka and others were present.
Meanwhile, the day was celebrated in Jainoor by Adivasi women in which Asifabad Zilla Parishad chairperson Kova Laxmi and MLA Atram Sakku attended. Kova Laxmi and Sakku said Adivasi women must fight for their rights provided in the Indian constitution.
Collector Sikta Patnaik expressed her solidarity with all women fighting for their genuine rights.
