GPRS buses soon, promises Mayor VKC Mammed Koya

KOZHIKODE: The newly formed City Consultative Committee of the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation held its first meeting on Friday. The committee, which includes people’s representatives, officials, political party leaders, experts from various fields and members from different walks of life shared their opinions and suggestions for creating a better city.

The Consultative Committee was one of the promises made by VKC Mammed Koya in his 13-point action plan declared in November soon after he assumed the office of the Mayor. The Committee has beenformed to discuss, formulate and find solutions for the overall development of the City.

Addressing the meeting, VKC Mammed Koya said that E-governance would soon be implemented in the Corporation office to improve services to the public.  “We will also install CCTV cameras and WiFi in the City and the GPRS system in buses. We are also planning to create an improvement model for Beach Hospital on the lines of the Nadakkavu GGHSS,” he added.

Kozhikode MP M.K Raghavan said that more drainage projects should be implemented in the City to prevent rivers and other water resources from getting polluted. Elathur MLA A.K Saseendran said that a comprehensive master plan was required for the City.

Kozhikode District Collector N Prasanth said that the Corporation’s plan to convert Kozhikode into a smart city was commendable despite it not being named in the Union Government’s Smart City project. Beypore MLA Elamaram Kareem, Deputy Police Commissioner D Saly, District Panchayat President Baby Parassery, among others were also present. The Committee’s suggestion will be presented in the Council for approval.
