GAD top official in ACB net
The market value of the assets was estimated to be around Rs 50 crore
Vijayawada: Another high-ranking official has landed in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) net.
ACB sleuths raided general administration department joint secretary Karanam Venkata Ranga Sai Kumar’s properties on suspicion of the official possessing disproportionate assets.
ACB officials conducted coordinated searches at multiple locations in AP, Telangana state and Bengaluru.
Apart from the houses of K.V.R. Sai Kumar, the ACB also conducted searches at the properties of relatives who acted as benamis for him.
Disproportionate assets worth Rs 2.54 crore, as per book value, were found during the searches. The market value of the assets was estimated to be around Rs 50 crore.
The accused officer has only one plot in Bengaluru with a registered value of Rs 6.05 lakh. All his properties were in his relatives’ names. His wife, K. Subhashini, has a plot worth Rs7 lakh in Bengaluri, while his mother-in-law, Y. Anja-mma, holds a flat in Hyderabad worth Rs 25 lakh. Siddavatam Satya-simha, a nephew of the accused officer, has a shopping complex at Keesara, worth Rs56 lakh, and a plot at Alwal with a registered value of Rs11.76 lakh.
K. Subramanyam Naidu, Sai Kumar’s brother, also has a flat worth Rs 31 lakh in Hydernagar and four plots in Kadapa district with a registered value of Rs 4.5 lakh.
The ACB sleuths found that the assets that the accused officer’s relatives hold belonged to him.
Apart from the immovable assets, ACB officials also found 1 kg gold ornaments worth around Rs 35 lakh and 10 kg silver articles in his possession. The other finds included Rs 20 lakh in cash in his house, bank balance of Rs 15 lakh, fixed deposits worth Rs 16 lakh, and Rs 20 lakh paid receipts with Sriram Chits.
ACB director-general R.P. Thakur said the accused officer started his career as an assistant section officer in the law department in the secretariat and went up the ladder to joint secretary position. “The investigation is still on and we have to open two bank lockers also held in the name of his benamis,” Mr Thakur said.
