Gandhi Hospital performs splenectomy for Thalassemia children
Hyderabad: The Thalassemia Sickle Cell Society (TSCS) extended its appreciation to Gandhi Hospital for its support to thalassemia children by offering splenectomy medical services. On the occasion of World Thalassemia Day, the society praised the services rendered by the Gandhi hospital department of paediatric surgery headed by Prof. Dr K. Nagarjuna, and comprising Dr S. Srinivas, Dr Kavimozhy Ilakkiya, Dr A. Raj Kiran and Dr K. Phanindra.
The society said the Gandhi Hospital had performed 40 safe splenectomies over three years; over a period of time Dr Nagarjuna has done 70 splenectomy operations for thalassemia children. Thalassemia children require splenectomy due to increased demand of blood transfusion.
